Why I Can Out Preach John Piper!

Let me quickly clarify that! I do NOT mean that my delivery, insight, application, exegesis, urgency, or illustrating is better than his! Not by a long shot! Here is what I mean.

We are living in a time when sermon audio and video is right at our finger tips. Last fall I attended the Advance The Church Conference in Raleigh, NC. As soon as we got back to our hotel after the first evening of sessions, much of the audio was already online! For free!

I am quite thankful for YouTube, Facebook, Podcasts, Vodcasts, Vimeo, etc., which allows the Word to be sent forth like never before. The downfall is that many Christians who listen to the “big dogs” through Podcast and Vodcast might grow a little weary listening to their “little dog” pastor week in and week out. But I am convinced that no one can preach to you like the pastor standing in front of you, in the flesh,* every week. If you disagree with me, Martyn Lloyd-Jones has a few words for you:
There is a unity between preacher and hearers and there is a transaction backwards and forwards. That, to me, is true preaching. And that is where you see the essential difference between listening to preaching in a church and listening to a sermon on the television or on the radio. You cannot listen to true preaching in detachment and you must never be in a position where you can turn it off. (Banner of Truth Magazine, Feb 1990) HT: Miscellanies
Amen! No one can preach to my people like I can! Not even John Piper! No one loves them, knows them, cares for them, or prays for them like I do! And the same goes for your pastor.

*I am not against multi-site, video venues where a live stream or recording is presented to a congregation. I think this still falls under the realm of what I am talking about.
